Our Story
The Dry Brew story begins in 2010, when the inventor of the world’s only waterless coffee - originally called Coffee W.O.W. (World’s Only Waterless Coffee). Pablito De La Rosa, filed the patent for flavorful, waterless coffee.
Pablito was a first-generation U.S. citizen from the Philippines, an engineer in the U.S. Navy, and a lifelong creative inventor. He raised his family in San Diego, and when his kids went to school in Los Angeles, he found himself regularly driving the I-5 corridor. Like any coffee lover, he needed his fix - but he didn’t want to carry a thermos or stop for coffee along the way.
So he did what inventors do.
In his spare time, Pablito began tinkering in his garage, experimenting with formulations until he landed on a simple but revolutionary solution: coffee you could eat. Because he was diabetic and drank his coffee with a sugar alternative, that’s exactly how he created the first version of what we now know as Dry Brew.
He labeled his creation Coffee W.O.W. and shared it with his family.
They immediately saw the vision. The De La Rosas began small-batch production in their kitchen and started selling at local farmers markets. Everyone who tried it loved it.
Pablito’s son, Mikey, later rebranded the product as Dry Brew and officially registered the trademark - marking the beginning of the Dry Brew story as we know it today.
Around 2018, as the De La Rosa family balanced full-time jobs and growing families of their own, time became tight and production slowed. During that period, John Schade, his girlfriend Maddy Wyner, and her dad Dan Wyner discovered Dry Brew on Amazon and instantly fell in love with it. John reached out hoping to get involved. But by then production had paused and the business went quiet for several years.
Then in 2024, as the De La Rosa family found more time with their kids growing older, Mikey reconnected with John to reignite his father’s legacy.
The timing was right.
The De La Rosa and Schade/Wyner families formed a partnership, and today John runs the day-to-day operations of Dry Brew alongside Mikey and the De La Rosas - bringing the original Coffee W.O.W. vision back to life.
Dry Brew is now distributed across the United States and embraced by outdoor and athletic communities - hikers, cyclists, runners, and skiers - as well as first responders, teachers, pilots, astronauts (!!), and anyone with a busy lifestyle who loves coffee but needs it to move at their speed.
Dry Brew is championing a new way to consume coffee.
